BASIC BELIEFS
The symbol of
the Christian Reformed Church is the cross, superimposed upon
the cross symbolizes that Jesus died to save us from sin, and that
He is
the center of the Church’s life. The triangle represents the
universal symbol
of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
ROLLING
ACRES - The church is located in the south part of Mason City
in the Rolling Acres sub-division.
CHRISTIAN - We share with Christians all over the world a common faith
in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
REFORMED - We stand in the tradition of the historic Protestant Reformation
relying on the God-inspired Bible as our authoritative standard for
faith and life. We continually examine our teachings and lifestyles
in terms of the Bible.
CHURCH - We count it a joy to be a part of the family of God, which
extends throughout the whole world and history.

MEMBERSHIP
Those who wish to become members are asked to meet three times
with the Pastor to review the basics of the Christian faith and gain
an understanding of the Christian Reformed denomination. These are
either done during the Sunday School hour, or by appointment.
For those who are unsure
about membership, but simply want to learn more about or review
the Bible and the Christian faith, Pastor Jack
enjoys giving a six-session series on BASIC CHRISTIANITY. It explains
questions such as, “What is the Old Testament all about?”, “Who
did Jesus say He was?” “Why are there so many different
kinds of churches?”, “What does Baptism mean?”,
as well as any other questions one might be wondering about. This
study may be done with individuals or couples, in the home or at
the church. Pastor Jack enjoys helping people to understand these
things and says that if someone takes this course they will have
an overview of all the basics.

MARRIAGE
Marriage is
a beautiful thing. Pastor Jack asks for any weddings he does that
the couple come to three sessions of Pre-Marital counseling. In
these sessions he covers the basics of a marriage relationship,
and wants to give each person a good base to start from.

BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Baptism is the sign, and mark of God on a person,
saying “You are my dear son, daughter.” In the Old
Testament this was circumcision (Genesis 17), and only done among
the males, with blood flowing. In the New Testament, it is baptism,
done for male and female, with water as the sign of Jesus cleansing
us of sin. If someone has not been baptized and comes to put their
faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, they are baptized (Matthew
28: 19). We believe that God also includes children in his covenant
family, and therefore infants of believers are also baptized. Following
God as a community of faith together, as the Family of God, is
important to us, and we see children as a part of that family.
We love the sounds of children among us! Ideally we like families
following God together, praying together before meals (see handout
on Table Prayers), and at the same time we stress that the ultimate
family is the Family of God! The Family of God, the church, transcends
the earthy family, gives a home to the married, the divorced, stressed
married persons, the single, the child with one or no parents,
and calls us all to him as children of the heavenly Father! We
respect those among us that do not hold the view baptizing infants
of believers, and they are included in our membership. We do not
believe baptism saves the person, and as a child who receives baptism
grows up, we pray they will have a true faith in Jesus as Lord
and Savior, and joyfully accept the baptism mark of God by publicly
professing their faith. We call this Profession of Faith, and it
is done in a worship service.

HOLY COMMUNION
The Sacrament of Holy Communion was set up by Jesus to remember
his death for us on the cross. Adults from other churches,
and young
people that have made profession of faith, who believe in Jesus
as Lord and Savior, are invited to partake. Others are asked
to talk
with the Pastor or an elder before partaking.
